An Internal Cannabinoid-Signaling System Regulates Human Sperm, Fertilization Potential, Study Finds; Abusing Marijuana May Overload System, Inhibit Fertility

An Internal Cannabinoid-Signaling System Regulates Human Sperm, Fertilization Potential, Study Finds; Abusing Marijuana May Overload System, Inhibit Fertility

This one would seem to tie together articles from that past two days that seemed to say the exact opposit of one another... it seems that cannabinoids will both inhibit and aid sperm motility depending on the circumstance.  Dynamite reading here.

An Excerpt:
SAN FRANCISCO -- A cellular signaling system that responds to THC, the active substance in marijuana, as well as to anandamide, a cannabinoid-like molecule normally produced in the body, may regulate sperm functions required for fertilization in humans, a study headed by scientists from the University at Buffalo has found.

In addition, the findings suggest that men and women who abuse marijuana could jeopardize fertility by overloading this natural cannabinoid signaling system that regulates sperm structure, vigor and fertility...

The Moar You Know Vol 5

Because the moar you know, the moar you realize you don't know, the moar you research, the moar you know, the moar you realize you don't know until ultimately you know so much that you realize you actually know nothing and then you go derp.

Olney City Council unanimously approved an ordinance during its meeting Monday to ban K2, a legal substance that has been sold by a local liquor store. The ordinance will go into effect in 10 days and will expire Jan. 1, which is when K2 will be outlawed statewide. The use and sale of the product will be prohibited. According to the ordinance, a violator can face a fine of “not less than” $60 ...

A statewide ban is being urged for the unregulated product, which has been linked to the death of an Iowa teenager.

The dice of spice
There is a new spice available at the store and it isn't the kind grandma puts in her apple pie. It is instead a legal substance used to get high and beat drug tests, and many in Yuma are taking advantage of it.

As if parents didn’t have enough to worry about when it comes to the possibility of their kids using illegal drugs, legal versions of illegal substances have become readily available. Those substances include K2, an herbal incense that reportedly causes a high similar to that of marijuana when smoked. Several states have banned K2, and many Texas cities — including Eastland and Breckenridge in ...

SIDNEY – Cheyenne County appears to be the latest community in a long list affected by the illegal use of “herbal incense,” commonly known as K2 or Spice.

Synthetic cannabinoid may aid fertility in smokers

Synthtic Cannabinoid May Aid Fertility in Smokers

Yesterday we told you how synthetic cannabinoids might be used as a male birth control pill because of its effect on sperm motility.  Today we'll tell you how synthetic cannabinoids may be used to aid fertility because of its effect on sperm motility.  Please don't ask me how both can be true, because i'm all crunked up and I can't wrap my head around it.  Suffice to say it must be true, because SCIENTISTS said so.

An excerpt:

A reproductive medicine specialist at the University at Buffalo has shown that a new compound may improve the fertility of tobacco smokers who have low sperm count and low percentage sperm motility.  The sperm from male smokers were washed with a synthetic chemical ...

Marijuana Research Offers New Hope For Male Birth Control Pill

Marijuana Research Offers New Hope For Male Birth Control Pill

I'm not sure a male birth control pill will work, simply because any male who wants to get laid and has no condom will rather lie and say he's on the pill than go without... women will need to be on the pill anyway, just in case, and no pill will protect from crabs...

An excerpt:

The male birth control pill has lingered for years tantalizingly just out of reach, in the realm where rumor meets science. Recently developed hormonal and mechanical contraceptives never found an audience, serving only to highlight the absence of a male pill. Now, an examination of how smoking pot lowers fertility may make the male pill more than a persistent rumor.

Our country's insane prohibition on marijuana -- a safe, non-toxic, and well-studied drug -- is now leading consumers to experiment with lesser-known, and potentially much more dangerous, alternatives.

Science Fair Projects - Synthetic Cannabinoids

Science Fair Projects- Synthetic Cannabinoids

This is a fun little article that's packed with scientific information about our favorite kind of incense...

An Excerpt:

Before the 1980s, it was often speculated that cannabinoids produced their effects through nonspecific interaction with cell membranes, instead of interacting with specific receptors. The discovery of the first cannabinoid receptors in the 1980s helped to resolve this debate. These receptors are common in animals, and have been been found in mammals, birds, fish, and reptiles. There are currently two known types of cannabinoid receptors, called CB1 and CB2.
CB1 receptors are found primarily in the brain, specifically in the basal ganglia and in the limbic system, including the hippocampus

Stop H.B. 176 - The Anti-Cancer Research Bill

This one comes to me courtesy of The Agitator, which is an awesome blog and a must read for anyone concerned with the erosion of personal rights in America.

Basically some douchbag legislator in Pennsylvania wants to ban cancer research using synthetic cannabinoids.  Because, of course, you're better dead than high, right?

link: Stop HB 176 - The Anti-Cancer Research Bill
An Excerpt:
H.B. 176, recently introduced by state Rep. Jennifer Mann, is scheduled to be considered at the House Judiciary Committee meeting on Tuesday, September 21st, 2010. This bill would criminalize 5 synthetic cannabinoid compounds that are being researched for use in the treatment of cancer, AIDS, MS, pain, and other serious diseases. Research using these substances has been done at colleges throughout the Commonwealth, such as at the University of Pennsylvania. There is no scientific or moral reason why we should send cutting edge research out of the state. There is also no reason to ban something that may one day be a prescribed medication used to treat the severely ill. Preliminary evidence suggests these substances appear to be relatively harmless. Some of these substances and similar substances have been shown to kill cancer cells, reduce nausea and vomiting, and boost the immune system. There is no reason the legislature should be banning possible cancer treatments!

Wood River bans synthetic cannabinoids
WOOD RIVER - City officials approved an ordinance Tuesday night to ban herbs that mimic cannabis, and they also updated various laws concerning morality and alcohol.

Dominion Diagnostics (Dominion) has recently developed and validated one of the first clinical urine drug monitoring assays to detect the metabolites of JWH-018 and JWH-073, two compounds typically found in synthetic cannabinoids, also referred to as "herbal incense" products. Users looking for a "legal high" have reportedly turned to these products as an alternative to marijuana.

The owner of Crazy Earl's was arrested Tuesday afternoon, accused of selling synthetic marijuana at his store.

A bill to outlaw synthetic marijuana in Pennsylvania is creating a buzz in Harrisburg. A motion to ban what's commonly sold as "herbal incense" passed its first hurdle today when the state Judiciary Committee voted unanimously to send Bill 176 to the House.

A ‘‘Marine Corps Times” headline, published Sept. 6, stated that a new line of drug concoctions, like Spice or K2, are ‘‘legal” and should Marines choose to use them ‘‘the brass can’t stop it.”

Celebstoner.com - Spice:Getting High on Synthetic Cannabinoids

Spice: Getting High on Synthetic Cannabinoids

Nice article on the Spice phenomena over at Celebstoner.com.

An Excerpt:
"A brave group of scientists in Germany in December 2008 went out and purchased Spice," Marcu reports. "They smoked it and then proceeded to do blood and urine samples on themselves. In the two scientists who had taken the drug they were able to measure several things: They got red-eyes, increase in pulse rate and cottonmouth. And there was an alteration of mood and perception.

Domain Names - any ideas?

I'm trying to pick a domain name for the blog, thinking about using Yahoo or GoDaddy for the domain name, but I haven't decided which domain name to go with... I like "crunkycrunk.com", but I think that maybe it might end up being confused with crunk music, which won't do at all... "herbalincense.com" is a bit too lame...

So, if anyone has a good idea for a domain name for this site, post em in the comments, and then we'll probably have a poll to see which one is most popular, then one of you fags will go on Yahoo and register all the domain names in the poll, and sell me the winner....

Which domain name should we use?
And which provider?  Yahoo?  Go Daddy?
BigAssMuthaFakkinDomainNames dot com?
You be the judge.

Erowid Experience Vaults: Heaven and Hell, a tale of a JWH 18 Overdose.

http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=76242

Be careful with the crunk, folks, or this could happen to you.

An excerpt:

(11:15): JWH-018 vaped off of aluminum foil. The taste is bearable, but only just. It tastes very similar to smoking plastic.

(11:16): The effects are felt almost immediately. I first noticed a slight visual change that grew slowly until it was very pronounced. Everything seemed close up and the room oscillated back and forth. It felt almost like being on a boat.

(11:18): I burst out into uncontrollable laughter while my friend prepares his dose. This lasted for about 45 minutes (this isn't an exaggeration!) My throat was bone dry afterward, and it continued to hurt the next day.

(~12:00): Waves of fiery euphoria sweep over my body. It starts as a burning sensation in the back of my head and travels to my chest and lingers down my spine. Making a sharp pulse towards my feet, it comes back home to rest on the upper parts of my back. This continues for several minutes, with brief bursts of laughter and headache.

(12:45): I now begin to think I am losing my mind. I grab several bottles of water and begin to chug, trying to wash the substance out of my system. I spend about thirty minutes on the toilet trying to go to the bathroom. Eventually I get nauseous and proceed to projectile vomit into the floor...

The Moar You Know Vol 1

Here's some linkage because, the moar you know, the moar you know.

Authorities in 13 states thought they were acting to curb a public health threat when they outlawed a form of synthetic marijuana known as K2, a concoction of dried herbs sprayed with chemicals.

Gibson said the synthetic marijuana can lead to lethargic behavior.\

Normally, people consider anything labeled “herbal” to be benignand often soothing. If so, the herbal incense some people use as asubstitute for marijuana is an exception to the rule.

SALEM -- Some Oregon teens are using an herbal incense with synthetic forms of the active ingredient in marijuana to get high.

Bunnies are everywhere. The calendar on the wall. A figurine on the mantel. On the blankets covering the windows. There is even a "Bunny Xing" sign hanging near the grandfather clock.
